How to Take on College Studying.

How to Take on College Studying
Part 1

Develop Good Study Habits
In college, you’ll need to build on the study skills that you learned in high school. The demands of a college class are probably more rigorous than those you are used to.
You can succeed by knowing what to expect and how to handle it.
Think of college as a full-time job, in which you spend 40 hours a week on class, labs, study groups and doing homework.

Being organized and using your time well are essential. Learn more about time management, and use guidelines below to develop your study skills.

Decide When to Study
Work out about how many hours you need to study every day. Then make a schedule.
·        Figure out what blocks of time you have available throughout the day, in the evenings and on weekends.
·        Consider what time of day you are most alert – there are morning people and night owls – and try to schedule your studying accordingly.
·        Think about whether you do better studying for a few hours at time or sitting down for marathon sessions.

Cleanliness.

Cleanliness

I think it was a good video. It demonstrates how important it really is to keep your school clean. The reason why is because having a clean school shows a lot. People would want to come to a clean school. It's nice to have a clean school because not only are you getting an education you're respecting where you're getting education. School is like a second home to students, so why not keep it clean?

"Choosing the Right is Always the Right thing to Do."
- Alex Linares

What this Quote is trying to say is that when You choose what is Right it will always be Right, no matter what. Nobody will complain if You're choosing the Right. Every one will admire You, Respect You and Such but no one will ever debate with You if You are doing the Right. And We're old enough to know what's Right and to know what's Wrong.
For Example: You do what Your supposed to do instead of going out to smoke with Your Friends; Your Mom told You she wants the Dishes washed, The Floor Swept and Mopped, and Your Room Clean when she come back. Your Friends call You and ask You to come to the Park and Smoke and Drink but You tell them 'No.' That is choosing the Right...

Tip 6: Get a Good Night’s Sleep.
Your brain needs rest to perform at its peak. Lack of sleep makes the day seem longer and your tasks seem more difficult.
Tip 7: Communicate your Schedule to Others.
If phone calls or text messages are proving to be a distraction, tell your friends that you are only available at certain times of the day and not to expect a response at other times.
Tip 8: Become a Taskmaster.
Give yourself a time budget and plan your activities accordingly. Figure out how much free time you have each week before you add any commitments.
Tip 9: Don’t Waste Time Agonizing.
Instead of agonizing and procrastinating,
just do it. Wasting an entire evening worrying about something that you’re supposed to be doing is not productive, and can increase your stress.
Tip 10: Determine your Priorities.
You can’t do everything at once. Establish the importance of each item. Then set realistic goals that are attainable.

This quote means that its better to be alone than to be surrounded with bad people who choose the wrong. For example, its better to be at home with your family, in peace than to be with people who choose whats wrong, drinking, smoking, stealing.

Tips from College Students ..

Tips from College Students
Tips for High School Students to Prepare for College

   1.      Be prepared to do a lot of reading in college.
   2.      Learn time management: use a calendar and plan how to use your time. Learn to manage your time while still in high school, keep a calendar of all exams and paper due dates.
3.      One of the biggest transitions between high school and college is development of time management skills – students must learn to balance school and social life.
4.      Be prepared to discipline yourself, as the temptation to slack could be great could be great. If you miss 4-5 classes in a semester, you may not make it through the semester successfully.
5.      Being sick affects your ability to be a student – and remember that community living contributes to the cold/flu season.
6.      Learn to read – summarize and outline reading.
7.      Learn to take notes in class.
8.      Learn to study.
9.      Start the college and scholarship search as early as possible.
10.  Take as many Science, Math, English, and foreign Language courses as you can; they build a foundation for college.
11.  Participate in volunteer and community service programs. It helps with scholarships!
12.  Take advantage of the advanced classes offered in high school.
13.  Think about what characteristics in a university are of most importance to you (climate, environment, degrees offered, size, location, etc.) before making a final decision about attending college. Visit them if possible.
Advice from University of Portland Students
1.      “I think the most important thing to let high school students know is not to overlook anything. When I was in high school I often asked myself, “Why do I need to know this?” then if I didn't think it was pertinent, I wouldn't bother to study it. But in college, all those seemingly unneeded tools came together in real life (e.g.: finding an intersection of those two lines in algebra is later important in cost/revenue calculations). In the way of classes, learning to read and write well is very important.

Reflection on the Video ~
I think it's Amazing the way people can sometimes act so Kind and Caring. It shows a different side to them. The two girls that helped Sarah, Mallory and Liz were very Sweet. They weren't on the same team but they sure did show good sportsmanship-a Great Spirit! It's really touching, too.

7 Habits of Highly Successful Students
Habit 7; Part 1.

Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw.
Teens should never get too busy living to take time to renew themselves. When teens “sharpen the saw” they are keeping their personal self, sharp so that they can better deal with life. It means regularly renewing and strengthening the four key dimensions of life – body, mind, heart, and soul.

             I.            Body. Eat wholesome foods, fruits, vegetables, legumes. Avoid illegal drugs, smoking, alcohol, tobacco products, tattooing. Exercise regularly and effectively. Get plenty of rest at night. Get to bed early at night and get up early each morning. “Early to bed early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.”

II.            Mind. Think positively. Read. Study. Think. Analyze. Seek to read a good book each month. Then each week. Ask intelligent questions. Observe. Develop your mind through positive “self-talk.”

"Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much."
- Helen Keller

This quote is pretty similar to "Two Brains are Better than One." Keller's quote simply states that when alone, you accomplish so little, like you don't get much done. When you work with someone or everyone you can do so much. You help them as much as you're helping yourself. Life can be so much easier when you work well with others. 'Teamwork!' can lead to Success.

Habit 6 of 7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens.

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens
Habit 6
Habit 6: Synergize.

Synergy is achieved when two or more people work together to create something better than either could alone.
Through this habit, teens learn it doesn’t have to be “your way” or “my way” but rather a better way, a higher way. Synergy allows teens to value differences and better appreciate others. Synergy is the reward, the delicious fruit you’ll taste as you get better at living the other habits, especially at thinking Win-Win and seeking first to understand. Learning to synergize is like learning to form V formations with others instead of trying to fly through life solo. You’ll be amazed at how much faster and further you’ll go. Synergy doesn't just happen. It’s a process. You have to get there. And the foundation of getting there is this: Learn to Celebrate Differences.

A good band is a great example of synergy. It’s not just the drums, or the guitar, or the sax, or the vocalist, its all of them together that make up the “sound.” Each band member brings his or her strengths to the table to create something better than each could alone. No instrument is more important than another, just
different.

Kindness.

I think Kindness is a Smart Decission and It's Chhosing The Right. For Example, when A Boy opens the Door for a Girl. He's being a Gentlemen and it says alot about the Boy. Another Example is when You Help a Stranger out, giving Him Directions... That's being Kind, because He was Lost. I think I'll learn to be more Helpful with Adults and Children - Evreybody. Asking if they need anything and Such.

basic skills for Sensitivity.

Basic Skills:

Step 1: Express Interest and Concern for Others, especially when They are Having Problems.

Rationale:
-If You help Others, They are more likely to Help You.

Helpful Hints:
-If You see Someone in Trouble, ask if You can Help.
-Sometimes, just showing you Care is enough to help a Person get through a Difficult Time.

Step 2: Recognize that Disabled People deserve the same Respect as anyone Else.

Rationale:
-A Disability does not make a Person Inferior. Helping People with Disabilities without Ridiculing or Patronizing Them shows that You Believe all People are equal, although Some Peple need a little Extra Assistance.

Helpful Hints:
-Be ready to Help a Disabled Person when needed by doing such things as holding open a door , carrying a Package, giving up Your Seat.
-Don't Stare at Disabled People or make Such Comments about Their Special Needs.

Step 3: Apologize or make Ammends for Hurting Someone's Feeling or causing Harm.

Rationale:
-Saying You're Sorry shows that You can take Responsibility for Your Actions and can Admit when You've done Something Wrong.

Helpful Hints:
-You can Harm Someone by what You Fail to do, just as easily as by what You can do. Some Examples are Breaking a Promise or not Sticking Up for Someone who is being Picked On.
-If You Hurt someone ...

Step 4: Recognize that People of Different Races, Religions, and Backgrounds deserve to be Treated the Same Way as You would expect to be Treated.

Rationale:
-Treating others equally shows that although People are Different, You believe that it shouldn't matter in the ways You treat Them.

Helpful Hints:
-Don't make Jokes or Rude Comments about the Color of Someone's Skin or what He or She believe.
-Some People have Different Customs for doing Things..

"The only difference between those who have failed and those who have succeeded lies in the difference of thier habits. Good habits are the key to all success. Bad habits are the unlocked door to failure. Thus, the first law I obey, which precedeth all others is - 'I will form good habits and become their slaves.'"

-Og Mandino

The meaning of this quote is that there is only one and pretty much MAGOR difference between the people who chose the wrong and obviously failed or chose the right and succeeded. When you're making the right decisions, thats like the 'key' to Success! Sadly, when making wrong choices... it's no 'key' to anything. And so, the habit of choosing the right will not only benifit you, but the people around you - they will think good of you, loved ones will feel proud of you, and you will feel great about yourself. 7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens ; Habit 2.

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens

Habit 2

Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind.

If teens aren’t clear about where they want to end up in life about their values, goals, and what they stand for, they will wander, waste time, and be tossed to and fro by the opinions of others. Help your teen create a personal mission statement which will act as a road map and guide his decision-making process.

“Keep your eyes on the prize.” Determine your desired prize and don’t quit until you have realized the achievement of your prize. Then set another prize, another goal or desire that you would really like to achieve. Begin with the achievement of your prize in mind. Visualize and then realize. Start by having a target in mind; know where you are going.

One prize or goal you definitely need to establish for yourself is the prize of an honorable graduation from high school – that you will receive your diploma honestly and with integrity – that you earned it with perfect honesty.

7 Habits of Highly Successful Students ; Habit 1 : Proactive .

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens
(by Sean Covey but Modified)

Habit 1

Habit 1: Be Proactive.

Being proactive is the key to unlocking the other habits. Help your teen take control and responsibility for her life. Proactive people understand that they are responsible for their own happiness or unhappiness. They don’t blame others for their own actions or feelings. Proactive people realize that the ball is in their court, that they are the captain of their own ship; that they are in control, control of their decisions, thoughts, choices, decisions, goals, actions, and priorities. Proactive people are self-starters; they don’t wait to be told what to do, they press forward with enthusiasm towards the achievement of their assignment, their duties, their responsibilities, their obligations. Choosing to do what is right is a proactive decision. Obey the rules. Obey the law. Obey the coach. Obey the school policies. Obey your parents. Obey with exactness, and great things will come to you. Be Proactive and take the Initiative.

" It's not WHERE you live but HOW you live that counts. It's not where you play the game but HOW you play the game that counts. "
- Mr.Haymore

This quote means that it doesn't matter where you live, in a rich society or a poor society, what matters is how you live, your actions-are they good or are they bad-that's what matters. It also refers to wherever you play, weather it's in your backyard or a big-o, fancy court- what matters is how you're playing, 'are you cheating? Are you being fair?' Overall, I think the big idea/example of this quote can be it don't matter who you become friends with weather he's rich or poor, or different Race, what matters is his personality. Is he good or bad? polite? selfish? ...

A Successful Student …

… takes responsibility for his/her own learning...
Online learning can be powerful, stimulating, engaging experience for the student who can work and think independently. However, since most-if not all-of the learning takes place on your own time, you will not have the kind of supervision you would in a classroom. Online learning therefore requires a significant commitment from you. All education comes down to what you’re willing to invest in the experience-this is particularly true in the online environment. Commitment, self-discipline and self-motivation are all key qualities to ensuring success in an online course!

…is comfortable and confident with written communication…
Reading and writing are the basis of most online courses, so it’s critical that you feel comfortable with this form of communication. While some courses contain modules that include videos or other activities, all of them require significant amounts of reading. And nearly all of your communication with your classmates and your instructor will be in writing. if these are weak areas for you, you will want to address those issues prior to enrolling or while enrolled in an online course. The PSU Writing Center is available to assist you.
